A ancient new road of poverty appeared in life history of elderly women living alone

Abstract
This study analyzed life histories of 8 elder women living alone who receive the National Basic Livelihood security program to seek new solutions to poverty phenomenon of elderly women. Data analysis was conducted by the framework proposed by Mandelbaum (1983), the area of life, the turning point of life, adaptation. The result was as follows; the area of life was ¡®child given birth to by blood relationship and heart¡¯, ¡®peer community(senior citizen center)¡¯, ¡®religion¡¯, ¡®social welfare service system¡¯. The turning point of life was ¡®period of loss and absence¡¯, ¡®period of taking over and resistance¡¯, ¡®period of giving up and living alone¡¯. Adaptation was ¡®living out alone¡¯, ¡®revealing their own sence of existence¡¯, ¡®reforming to the subject of rights¡¯. Based on these results, the researcher proposed policies and practical measures to prevent and cope with poverty of elderly women.
